Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, today encouraged local not-for-profit organisations, charity, community and sporting groups, councils or state government agencies to identify and register activities or projects for Work for the Dole participants.
From 01 July 2015 Work for the Dole will be rolled out nationally as part of the government’s new $5 billion jobactive employment service. Work for the Dole coordinators begin work this month to start identifying local opportunities.
According to Ms Ley “Work for the Dole activities can range from office administration and customer service, warehouse duties through to outdoor tasks such as landscaping and repairs. It really depends on the needs of the host organisation”.
“Unemployment numbers are a little above the national average in our area and this proactive program is a key element in the government’s efforts to help people get back into work.”
“Work for the Dole offers job seekers the chance to learn new skills, while also giving something back to the community which supports them while they seek paid employment.”
“If you would like to offer job seekers a Work for the Dole placement or want to find out more, please feel free to get in touch with my electorate office or head to the official website.
