Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley today flagged the opening of local applications for the Commonwealth’s new Stronger Communities Programme, announced in this year’s Federal Budget.

Stronger Communities will deliver a total of $300,000 in Farrer over the next two years to fund small capital projects which can deliver social benefits to local communities.

According to Ms Ley, “this is an exciting chance for local councils and not-for-profit organisations to identify potential projects which will contribute to their community’s long term welfare and viability”.

“In coming weeks, a Stronger Communities Consultation Committee will be established to identify priority projects, which will ensure we can deliver the best possible outcomes across Farrer.”

“Right now, I would encourage potential applicants to contact my office so we can begin to build a list of projects which meet the eligibility criteria.”

“You can apply for funding of at least $5,000 and up to a maximum of $20,000 but there must also be a matching cash or in-kind funding on at least a dollar for dollar basis.”

Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the Stronger Communities Program guidelines and the Frequently Asked Questions, which are available on the Department’s website
