The Turnbull Government today announced $5 million in new funding to support the growth and success of Men’s Sheds across Australia, including four locations in Farrer.
Local MP Sussan Ley said “the funding supports local men, particularly as they get older, to connect with each other, avoid social isolation and preventable health conditions, while helping maintain good physical and mental wellbeing”.
Farrer funding recipients from the latest round of grants include;
– Howlong Men’s Shed – $1,500 for building maintenance & an electrical upgrade
– $4,175 for the Dareton Men’s Shed for building maintenance and air conditioning.
– $2,722 to Jerilderie Men’s Shed to purchase an air compressor & cordless drill kits.
– Mathoura Men’s Shed receives $9,500 to fit out their new base at the local Bowling Club.
“As well as fostering a sense of community, what Men’s Sheds do best is provide an opportunity for blokes to pass their skills onto others, learn new things, or just catch up for a chat and a cup of tea”, Ms Ley concluded.
The latest grant funding is part of the Federal Government’s contribution to the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) through to 2018-19 to support the national network of Men’s Sheds.
AMSA is the peak body supporting almost 1000 Men’s Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male based community development organisations.
