The Griffith and Narrandera Men’s Sheds have been awarded funding through the Turnbull Government’s latest grants distributed from the National Shed Development Programme.
Local MP Sussan Ley today personally congratulated Griffith Men’s Shed on its successful application for $6,500 to assist in the installation of new solar panels and a 5kW inverter.
Narrandera Men’s Shed will receive just over $2,000 to purchase new fire safety equipment and cover costs towards the recent completion of a concrete slab.
According to Ms Ley “like so many other sheds across Australia these local meeting places offer great benefits to men who may need a bit of space and some friendly, relaxed company”.
“Men are thankfully talking about their health more and more. A ‘shed’ provides a safe and friendly environment for them to do so; they’re becoming integral to many country communities with the benefit to both physical and mental health widely acknowledged”, Ms Ley said.
Nationally, grants totalling $395,000 have been allocated under round 16 of the National Shed Development Programme to assist with the purchase of tools, maintenance, and community activities focused on men’s health issues.
The funding is part of $5.1 million the Government is providing to the Australian Men’s Shed Association to support the organisation, over the three years to June 2019.
