Farrer MP Sussan Ley has welcomed the expansion of NBN Co’s super-fast business internet option to include three more urban areas in Farrer.
According to Ms Ley, NBN’s Business Fibre Zone first announced in late September, is now available in Griffith’s CBD area as well as Moama and Buronga/Gol Gol in the far south west of her electorate.
“This means business owners in the majority of existing fixed line broadband areas can request a fibre upgrade from their internet service provider, with no upfront capital cost to connect the fibre.”
“This initiative delivers better broadband speeds for critical I.T. applications, including cloud storage and online collaboration, helping country-based businesses remain competitive in the digital age.”
Confirmation of the new business fibre locations comes after Albury-Wodonga and Lavington were originally announced among 85 regional CBD high speed fibre zones outside of the capital cities.
Minister for Regional Communications, Mark Coulton, said the Business Fibre Zones in regional centres allows local business the chance to benefit from the transformation to NBN wholesale business pricing, which brings regional pricing into line with capital cities.
“Businesses within NBN Co’s Business Fibre Zones across the country will have access to CBD zone wholesale prices, driving annual cost savings of between $1,200 and $6,000 for those based outside capital city centres,” Minister Coulton said.
NBN is also allocating $50 million to help expand these zones by co-investing with local councils and state governments. A further $1.5 billion is also being invested in improving fixed wireless and satellite networks.
