A re-elected Turnbull Government will undertake a review into issues affecting the supply and taxation of working holiday makers, the Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer, Kelly O’Dwyer, announced today.
Minister O’Dwyer acknowledged the strong advocacy of the Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley in shaping the Government’s decision.
“Ms Ley has been a strong advocate for a considered comprehensive review of the supply and taxation arrangements of seasonal holiday workers.”
“The Turnbull Government will defer the commencement of the previously announced changes to treat all working holiday makers as non-residents for tax purposes from July 1 for six months, pending the outcome of the review process,” Minister O’Dwyer said.
Ms Ley has welcomed the announcement of the review and deferral.
“Working holiday makers are a significant source of seasonal labour in our local community.
“This is a timely and measured response by the Government to an issue that I have been championing in Canberra,” Ms Ley said.
The ‘Review of 417 and 462 Visa Labour’ is due to report by mid-October.
