Primary schools across Farrer only have a short time left to benefit from first round funding in the Abbott Government’s $100 million Sporting Schools program.

Local MP and Minister for Sport, Sussan Ley, says “schools wishing to broaden their choice of sport in terms three and four this year have until this Friday (26 June) to apply and become part of Australia’s largest school-based sports program”.

“Sporting Schools’ primary aim is to nurture active kids during the early years but it also helps
foster skills in leadership, teamwork, community spirit and hopefully encourages a lifetime of healthy pursuits.”

“Nationally, more than 3,000 schools have already registered an interest in complementing their PE curriculum, including 45 across Farrer, but there is room for plenty more before applications close on Friday”, Ms Ley concluded

Over 30 sports are available in Sporting Schools, including Athletics, Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Union, Basketball, Cricket, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Netball, Tennis and many more.
