Works have begun on the $916,000 upgrade of currently unsealed Henry Roberts Road and Wonnaminta Road at Pretoria Creek, as part of the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Programme.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the $3.2 billion Roads to Recovery Programme is designed to improve safety, economic and social outcomes to support the maintenance of local roads.

“The $916,000 fully Australian Government funded project will improve the wet-weather performance and safety of local unsealed roads for motorists,” Mr Truss said.

“The Australian Government is funding hundreds of projects like this across Australia, ensuring Australia’s road network is safe, productive and services the needs of the local community.

“This project is part of the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Programme, with $6.2 million committed for the Unincorporated Area of NSW.”

Local MP for Farrer Sussan Ley said: “the upgrade will be a fantastic improvement for a route which not only services local properties, but is the connection for White Cliffs and the Far West, joining with the Silver City Highway about 70km south of Milparinka”.

“Heavy flooding earlier in the year stranded a number of local families along the highway, so the upgrade of these flood-ways is very welcome news.”

Local residents should note works will be undertaken on weekdays between 7am and 5pm.

Motorists are advised to slow down and follow the signs for detours to ensure the safety of road users and workers. Works are expected to be finished in mid-December.”
