Farrer Food Fair

Australian Parliament House, Canberra
What is the Farrer Food Fair?
From small to big business and exporters, Farrer is truly the “home” of irrigated agriculture – producing rice, grapes, cotton and cereals, through to dairy, wool, fat lambs and cattle. We also have important industries surrounding citrus, horticulture and vegetable production.
In 2012-13 irrigation contributed to 28% of Australia’s agricultural production, adding $13.4 billion in gross value to our national bottom line. Of this, more than $7.1 billion (more than half) was from the Murray Darling Basin!
Although diverse, what we have across our “Farrer” (the Murray, Murrumbidgee and lower Darling River) regions is a collective of vibrant, innovative communities which have not been afraid to ‘look outside the square’ when it comes to finding the best way forward through challenging times.
This October I am delighted to be hosting our second annual Farrer Food Fair – a showcase of food and wine produce from across our region, to be held in Parliament House and attended by Members, Senators and Parliamentary staff members from across our nation.
So, whether you are a small producer of gourmet olive oil, or have a large scale operation exporting fresh produce internationally, I would love to hear from you about how we can showcase our region to a (captive) national audience.
Obviously there are some logistics involved with bringing food and beverages into Parliament House so I encourage you to complete an expression of interest and return by mail or email (details below) so we can commence work on this Parliamentary showcase.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office either in Albury (02 6021 3264) or Griffith (02 6964 1212) with any queries.
I hope to hear from you soon!
Kind regards,
Sussan Ley
