More students will be encouraged to study in regional Australia, with the third round of our government’s popular Destination Australia scholarship program officially open.
Regional universities and vocational education providers can now apply to offer scholarships at their institutions for up to $15,000 per student a year, undertaking a range of qualifications, from a Certificate IV through to PhD.
Farrer MP Sussan Ley says these scholarships can help attract more students to our region where they’ll gain a valuable education and insights into the life and culture of regional Australia.
“Many students who spend time studying and developing friends and local contacts often stay on to live and work in the community.
“Destination Australia was launched in Albury back in 2019, and with the drop in international students caused by the COVID restrictions, is more important than ever for our regional institutions.
“There was an overwhelming number of applications across 2020 and 2021, which shows a clear desire among students and providers to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity,” Ms Ley said.
Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said we remain committed to supporting the growth of regional education and want to see our regional centres continue to be attractive and exciting destinations for students to study, work and live.
“Round three of the program will support a new round of 380 students while also delivering $19.5 million in Australian Government funding to continue supporting 800 ongoing scholarship holders,” Minister Tudge said.
Applications are now open and close 15 June. Details available here.
