An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed to fund new equipment for the planned gymnastics facility expansion at Griffith PCYC.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Federal Member for Farrer, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, said the Liberals will commit $185,000 towards the fit-out of Griffith PCYC – covering the costs of items such as specialist flooring, tumbling tracks, matting and trampolines.
“I have backed Griffith PCYC and its efforts to redevelop their facilities for several years now but am pleased to commit further with tangible support.”
“We know active kids are healthy kids and this project will increase participation in the club’s terrific programs,” Ms Ley added.
Griffith PCYC Manager, Alana Dunn, said their Olympic Street site already hosts over 30 classes each week, including kindy gym, gym star, recreational gymnastics, levels, Parkour/Ninja/Free G, WAG 1-4 (levels) and school holiday gymnastics camps.
“This funding means we’ll be able to quickly install new equipment to expand our recreational and gymnastics levels, increase the coaching team and offer more support for our local schools to deliver their gymnastics programs,” Ms Dunn said.
The current $3 million upgrade of Griffith PCYC – a joint project with the NSW Government and Griffith City Council – is due for completion in the first half of next year.
