An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed $50,000 to fully fund expanded Wi-Fi technology at Deniliquin’s Memorial Park, as well as the local Deniliquin Racecourse.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Federal Member for Farrer, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, said the Deniliquin Show Society approached her early last year, concerned that larger crowds turning out at the showgrounds were impacted by the riverside precinct’s marginal phone capacity.

“Using a combination of satellite and 4G network capability will boost network stability, helping organisers overcome poor signal strength and congestion during those major events days.”

“The issue of big crowds overwhelming local phone towers is not unique to Deniliquin of course, but I am really impressed with the way the town has worked together to identify and put proposals up to fix the problem,” Ms Ley said.

At the local racecourse, biannual meetings and additional events such as the Easter Rodeo will also benefit, with the Deniliquin Racing Club also wishing to access the world-leading Wi-Fi technology.

Deniliquin Show Society’s Chantelle Shevels said they successfully trialled the system as a temporary solution during the 2023 annual show and the results were outstanding.

“A new permanent network means we can properly support commercial operators relying on EFTPOS transactions; allows event managers to communicate with ground staff – equally important, our visitors are happy because they can use their phone”, Ms Shevels said.

Among the top priorities of a Dutton Liberal Government will be to grow a stronger regional Australia.
