Local and specialised treatment for cancer is now available in the M.I.A after the official opening of a new state-of-the art facility in Griffith.

Cancer Care Griffith opened its doors to patients in June providing services such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy & oncology pharmacy. A linear accelerator treatment machine incorporates the most up to date, sophisticated technology to target and destroy cancer cells.

Member for Farrer and Deputy Opposition Leader Sussan Ley officiated at the ceremony, noting one of the very first issues raised with her when she became the local member was the need for this centre.

“It’s taken combined effort and commitment from three levels government, private and community fundraising, and people with a shared passion to make sure we were not left behind.

“In celebrating today’s opening, I want to pay tribute to the incredible warmth and generosity of the community for getting us here.”

The centre’s opening means patients from the western Riverina no longer need to travel long distances for treatment. A bulk-billing option also reduces financial pressure for vulnerable patients.

The multi million dollar facility was designed to offer a supportive and serene environment for patients and their families, showcasing the latest medical advancements through technology, research and patient-centred care.
