Albury-Wodonga’s employment service providers are combining with the Border’s local Mayors, Chambers of Commerce and the Commonwealth Government on Project 100, a bid to place one hundred local job seekers into employment across the month of April.
The bold campaign will focus attention on high levels of unemployed young people, by utilising Youth Jobs PaTH, a flexible new program from the Federal Government helping employers develop the right staff for their needs.
PaTH (Prepare – Trial – Hire) gets young people work ready, and enables employers to trial prospective workers before hiring them. If the young person is then hired after an internship, employers may receive additional payments for ongoing training and development of their new employee.
Jobseeker participants also receive a $200 fortnightly incentive payment on top of income support during their internship.
Farrer MP Sussan Ley says “the border’s 10%-14% jobless youth figure is two to three times more than the overall unemployment rate and an issue we clearly want to address – Project 100 can go a long way to dropping those numbers”.
AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack says “it is important to ensure our young people gain meaningful employment and it is up to our community to support them in taking the step from education to jobseeker, then into long term jobs”.
Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie noted “recent consultations have highlighted youth employment as a key concern for our community and it is important that we all support initiatives that can provide real solutions to the issue”.
Project 100 wants to give one hundred locals a job, with five local service providers keen to put forward prospective employees to address local needs, through either the Federal Government’s jobactive or Transition to Work, including opportunities sourced through the new Youth Jobs PaTH program.
