The Australian Government is providing a funding boost of $5000 for an upgrade to the Henty Men’s Shed.
Local MP Sussan Ley said the cash grant will help with materials and labour to renovate the area around the shed as well as addressing space and storage needs.
“As men get older, Men’s Sheds allows blokes to connect with each other, helping avoid social isolation and preventable health conditions.”
“The funding means communities such as Henty have a venue with a safe and friendly environment, where men can work on projects at their own pace, in their own time, and in the company of others.”
“Shed members also have an opportunity to pass their skills onto others, learn new things, or just catch up regularly with other men in the community for a chat and a cuppa,” Ms Ley said.
The $5000 in funding for Henty is part of the $5.1 million the Federal Government is providing to the Australian Men’s Shed Association to support the national network of Men’s Sheds.
A new funding round for the National Shed Development Programme opened this week, with applicants encouraged to apply for grants to run health events during Men’s Health Week during June next year.
