National Agriculture Day today provides a great opportunity to acknowledge Australia’s hard working and determined farmers and the broader agricultural industry.

This year’s theme #GrowforGood highlights the positive contribution the farming and agribusiness sector makes to our nation, each and every day, putting food on our tables and clothing our families.

Australian farmers produce high quality food and fibre products with a professional focus on sustainability and profitability, in some of the most challenging growing conditions in the world.

A great example is Agri Australis, owned by Ferrero Australia, which has now completed planting almost one million hazelnut trees at its Narrandera operation; the result of almost five-years of work.

Spread across a large-scale demonstration farm, local MP Sussan Ley had the honour of planting the last tree on the property today.

“This represents many years of hard work by Agri Australis, the local community and the nut industry.”

“The hazelnut farm makes a significant difference to developing the agri-business sector in New South Wales, and there is no doubt Ferrero’s investment in our region continues to be a boost to the local economy,” Ms Ley said.

According to General Manager of Agri Australis, Claudio Cavallini, everyone has worked extremely hard to complete the planting phase of the project and we’re all very proud to have reached this milestone – it certainly represents a lot of hard work by many people locally and we’re very thankful for everyone’s dedication.”

The next phase for the large-scale demonstration farm is to support Australian growers to establish a local hazelnut industry by sharing technical know-how and trees from its nurseries.
