The Berrigan Shire community today celebrated the completion of the third subdivision of Tocumwal Airpark to cater for growing demand for aircraft parking spaces at Tocumwal Aerodrome.
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley joined the community for the opening today and said jobs created during and after the project provide a welcome boost to the regional economy.
“This project created 17 jobs during the construction phase, and will support another nine ongoing jobs, which is great news for the people involved and the local business community,” Ms Ley said.
Mayor for Berrigan Shire Council Matthew Hannan welcomed the opportunity to partner with the Australian Government to deliver a great project which not only creates a unique opportunity for Tocumwal and Berrigan Shire but also for the wider aviation community.
“This development builds on the Council’s long-term plan to make the Tocumwal Aerodrome a strong contributor to the local economy through creation of long-term jobs, strengthening the local hospitality industry and turning low-value land into a high-value business opportunity,” Cr Hannan said.
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the funding for the project was part of the Coalition Government’s continuing support for regional development initiatives.
“This region is seeing a number of projects delivered thanks to the Coalition Government, including the Lavington Sports Ground Redevelopment ($4 million), the enhanced aquatic facilities at Henty and Holbrook ($1 million), and Howlong Industrial and Export Precinct ($6.98 million) – all helping drive job creation and economic growth,” Dr McVeigh said.
This project was jointly funded between the Australian Government ($287,070) and the Berrigan Shire Council ($617,120).
