Australian Government Mobile Service Centres, including the ‘Desert Rose’, are hitting the road in the next fortnight to give people through the Riverina and Murray region easier access to essential government payments and services.
The travelling outreach service shortens the distance between rural and regional communities and government services, visiting nearly 400 towns across the country and helping up to 10,000 people every year.
The ‘Desert Rose’ is a heavy vehicle transport unit set up as an office, custom-built with the same technology as any other Service Centre, to deliver Medicare or Centrelink payments and services – it is wheelchair accessible and includes access to self-service facilities.
Federal Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley said there is “a soundproof room for free hearing health checks, details on rural payment entitlements for eligible farmers, child support payment and service options as well as specialist support and referrals”.
“Two of these travelling service centres will shortly visit Rankins Springs, Goolgowi, Hillston, Euston/Robinvale, Ivanhoe, Hay, Balranald and Barellan.”
“I encourage anyone who needs to access one or more of these government services to come along and visit when it comes to your community”, Ms Ley said.
