Member for Farrer Sussan Ley dropped in to Barellan this week to hand over $150,000 to the town’s Aged Care Support Group.

Matching a seven year local fundraising effort, the Federal Coalition cash grant will allow the completion of the first two units at the proposed Barellan Aged Care Village, and comes after a 2016 election commitment through the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants Programme.

As Barellan’s new local federal member, Ms Ley said she was “delighted to be able to deliver the money and impressed with the resolve of the group to provide these important facilities, so that our older local residents can remain in town”.

“The commitment and community spirit to build these units is really impressive, and I look forward to seeing the Village grow from here to become a real asset for Barellan long into the future”, Ms Ley said.

The funding enables the Aged Care Support Group to begin building a planned six aged care home units on the corner of Bendee and Kooba Streets adjacent to the Barellan
Community Health Centre.
