An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed $230,000 to install a new lift at Yanco’s
All Servicemen’s Club, providing elderly and disabled patrons’ easier access to the upper level of the venue.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Federal Member for Farrer, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, said she was approached by the Club several years ago after their existing stair-lift equipment began to fail. Unfortunately, subsequent funding applications to government have been unsuccessful.
“For more than half a century this place has been Yanco’s go-to social hub and the main entertainment venue in town – ensuring easy access to the first-floor restaurant and function area for any elderly or disabled visitors is just so important”, Ms Ley said.
Club Director Denise McGrath said as well as one off events, Riverina Stage Play, Leeton Rainbow Pride Collective, the local darts club, public school, CWA, Town Improvement Committee and Carer’s group all use the first-floor space on a regular basis.
“Equally important, these works mean we can also welcome supporters – young and old – back to the club after local ‘Hawks’ matches at the Yanco Sportsground. A public venue these days needs to offer smooth all-abilities access, so this support would be absolutely brilliant and help to bolster the club’s future.”
All Servicemen’s Club fundraising will see a contribution from the community of over $20,000 to the overall $250,000 project cost.
