Federal MP Sussan Ley today promised funding of over $230,000 to help the Holbrook Golf Club build new female-friendly changerooms, if a Dutton Coalition Government is elected this year.
Ms Ley said Holbrook is home to one the longest sand green golf courses in the Riverina, hosting both the Men’s and Ladies NSW Sand Green Championships multiple times.
“The Club came to me about a year ago indicating these amenities were long overdue for a refresh. Importantly the work would mean local and visiting female players feel far more welcome to come, play – and even stay another day.”
Golf Club Treasurer Judy Jones noted the current facilities were built back in 1981, with two concrete block septic toilets within a cramped and aging building.
“This funding would allow us to build modern, fully accessible toilets and changeroom facilities, with an added undercover area, all of which will help us boost our player membership.
“The upgrade plan coincides with the Club’s introduction of more opportunities for working women and school-aged girls to participate in golfing activities, including events such as tutoring and ‘come & try (Sun)days.”
The full project cost is in the range of over $250,000 with the Coalition election commitment subject to negotiation when the building cost estimate is finalised.
Among the Coalition’s Top Ten priorities for a return to government is to Grow a stronger Regional Australia. Supporting grass roots organisations like this is one way to ensure we do just that.
