An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed to deliver all new lighting to surround the home of Hockey Albury Wodonga (HAW) at Alexandra Park in East Albury.

The HAW fields accommodate a number of local hockey sides including: the Falcons, Norths, the Wombats, the Magpies and Albury’s Scots School.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Federal Member for Farrer, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, said this $480,000 commitment will upgrade the lighting around both hockey pitches at Alexandra Park.

Hockey Albury Wodonga President, Anne Dunstan, said the upgrade will meet Hockey Australia benchmarks to keep hosting major representative events, such as the junior state championships.

“The current lighting dates back more than forty years, where even finding replacement globes has become increasingly difficult, if not impossible,” said Ms Dunstan.

“Competitive and social sport is a fundamental part of the Border’s spirit, with hockey and many other activities based at Alexandra Park happening every day and night of the week,” said Ms Ley.

“So many of Australia’s sporting legends started their career in the country so giving our hockey stars of the future access to top-class facilities gives them the best chance of reaching their goals,” said Ms Ley.

Among the top priorities of a Dutton Liberal Government is to Grow a stronger Regional Australia.
